I'm reposting this because I don't think I posted it in a proper place the last time:

I have a date to have a cardioversion procedure carried out which, hopefully, will deal with my atrial fibrillation problem. Is there anybody out there who has had this procedure carried out?
    Thanks in advance.

My Uncle has Atrial Fibrillation and he has had two cardioversions.
    Try not to worry.

We, as a family, worried ourselves sick about the procedure (stupid Googling) because it sounded so scary but it wasn't at all.

They just attach those sticky things to your chest and you will be heavily sedated while they jolt your heart with those pad things; they're restarting your heart, but as scary as it sounds, it's for a split second and you'll find your irregular heartbeat stabilises immediately OR if your BPM was high, it will immediately be lower.

Don't be discouraged if you're told the first one didn't work by the way; it is not uncommon for you to have two cardioversions.

The doctors will know after a few months or by your next outpatient appointment if you need another, as my Uncle did, and he had the last one in 2015 and he's been grand since.

So best of luck, you'll be absolutely fine, it's a straightforward procedure.

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. I'm glad that your uncle's cardioversion was successful. You've given me some peace of mind. I have to say, however, that I'm very surprised that I haven't got more replies to my post because I'm sure that there are plenty of people who have had this done. But, having said that, there are only three sub-forums in the Health Issues section of this site, which I also find surprising because nearly everybody has some health issue or other and I firmly believe that talking about a problem with others who have had the same problem can be as good as a doctor's visit. As the old saying goes - "A problem shared is a problem halved!" Anyway, my appointment is for May 23rd so I look forward to posting my experience here.
    Thanks again.

I have had several cardioversions. Most were successful for a certain amount of time. The amount of time they were successful for became less as I became older. <snip> The charter for this forum does not allow invitations to pm
