Hi folks, I have an '05 1.9tdi A4, it's the 05 to 08 B7 model. I've put up 240k on it and I change the oil every 5k. I use 5W30 that meets VW spec 504.00/507.00. I understand that this spec is long life oil, but I don't really need long life given the frequency of oil changes, so my question is, does anyone know what the normal life oil spec for this model is? Google is confused on the issue! Thanks for looking.

Try putting the reg into the castrol or Halfords site they'll give you the different grades required.

That was very helpful, thanks. Looks like the 504/507 is the only recommended oil for her.
On a whim I tried the search engine on Micks garage, it gives different grades so I won't be trusting that site again.

I gave up on MG a long time ago. For what it costs you'd be better off sticking with the long life oil.

I must look at label on barrel tomorrow to see what numbers on it. It's premier autos finest anyway.

Do you know, you're the second person today to mention using a standard oil. However I recently came to a crossroads with this car, either trade up a few years or keep it for the next 25 years, and the car is so reliable and such a pleasure to drive that I'm going to keep it, and therefore I'm going to stick to the more expensive stuff. Here's hoping I can last as long as it!
