One of Ireland's Walker Cup Famous Five claims maiden pro title

Today could be a very significant day for 2 time GB&I Walker Cup and amateur star Gavin Moynihan. The Island Golf Club man claimed his maiden pro tour title when winning the Lookers Championship on the PGA Europro Tour - (a satellite pro golf tour) by a shot from Ulsterman Dermot McElroy.

Gavin has struggled to come to grips with life as a pro golfer since he became a pro in 2015 but this win should set him up nicely for the year ahead. He wins around just short of 12,000 euro (£10,000) for his week's work.

Hopefully this win by one of our brightest young talents can be the catalyst for the likes of Paul Dunne, Gary Hurley, Jack Hume and Cormac Sharvin to name but a few to get over the winning line in the coming weeks, months and years ahead. Well Done Gavin!!

That's great for him. I wonder will he be turning out in Ballykisteen in a couple of weeks? I'm hoping to go and see it so hopefully there will be a good field for it.

Great stuff - both guys mentioned incredible golfers - followed them at Irish Amateur a few times.

Seen them go under par on days (weather wise) when many plus players would struggle to break 80 with fantastic rounds of golf.

Is an insight to the level out there when the journey for some of our best players to the top level , can be long, difficult and never secure.

It is a question I know very little about , but did wonder about playing our type of championships links courses - it creates incredible versatile golfers . But , is it the type of golf needed to make it on the top pro tours ?

That is a question for lads that have been there and done that... so not too many can answer it.

What's going to be the story with the 11th in Ballykisteen for the Europro Toure event? Will that farce tee shot be back far enough for them that the net won't be in the way?

I presume you mean the 13th rather than the 11th. I don't know what the plans are for the tee position on that hole. The blues are currently only a few yards behind the other tees.

You do know where the box used to be and all that involved? I agree it's a terrible hole but when I think of why that is I can live with it easier.
