I think Ill give that one a miss , I get the feeling the historical value of this would have a minus value :D

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

I like the look of it from the trailer - but not sure yet if it's going to be a decent, somewhat grimy account of the time, or a lighter historical soap style production. Will give it a go either way.

    First ep is good
Something for box sets and a few eps at a time

The Irish red hair girl Verity seems like best most interesting character, the lead character Alice and the brother Silas very obvious from start

    Bit soapy.

There's potential but yer woman Alice was only there a day before she was ready to run off with the brother and murder the other lad. The blonde one is as subtle as a sledgehammer with her scheming and yet nobody sees through her.

Thought the first episode was good overall, not as soap style as I had expected though it was terribly rushed and not very believable - the two instances pointed out by Tickle Me Elmo above were exactly what I was thinking as well. The political wrangling is as subtle as a foghorn and totally unbelievable. I was expected a drawn out romantic sub-plot over the season but instead we get "Hi, we just met yesterday but let's elope and murder your brother" right off the bat.

Something I noticed too, which is probably a bit peantic, but, the posh people aren't pronouncing the letter R, which is what the British do now. Apparently at the time of US colonisation they did pronounce their Rs, which is why the Americans do. It was sometime after the colonies were settled that the posh folk adopted the current way of speaking.

disappointed in this, probably won't watch again

I liked the first episode, think I'll stick with it.

Although the women seem to have perfect hair and make up for people who spent months on a ship and then have to live in a village in the wilderness.

2nd episode quite good - much, much better paced than the first episode, though it is somewhat already settling into the cliche format where there's a beginning, middle and end to every individual episode.

Good watch though, looking forward to more. Could be grittier but it's not as soapy as I feared initially, sort of a comfortable middle ground.

God awful tripe, unwatchable, Scarlet letter meets Fair City

I actualy enjoyed it for what it is

Yeah, just watched the finale last night, it's a decent show. Consider it sort of a 'filler' show in between better ones but it's very watchable.

Season 2 returns on Feb 9th on sky 1

Anyone watch? I only saw episode 1 I'll watch the 2nd tonight. I thought it very unrealistic how Alice fell into the water and then the 2 women got in beside her and helped her birth the baby rather than helping her out first.

Your man Pedro is a bit of a loose canon I wouldn't be surprised if he's strung up before long but he's a character I'd miss. Nice to see the human side of slaves too, awful to see them being treated like possessions.

I watched both episodes, I was surprised they killed off Castell so quickly.

Second series went off the rails, that man/woman episode was really strange.

I'll have to pick up S2 again, I dropped off about half way through, I did like it but it got a bit odd. Glad they saw it through with an actual ending though.

Bit disappointed it's the final season, thought it would have lasted maybe 4 or 5 seasons.

Why did Silas abandon Alice and his kid to join the Indians?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,904 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

Bit disappointed they didn't show the battle between the settlers and the Indians, thought they might considering it was the last ever episode.
