Ok looking for car for my mother. Currently driving a very very old Micra. She is looking for better option. They also have Qashqai and she likes the height...

No real budget but would like to keep under the 10k
    Would prefer automatic
As older would be better to have higher seated
Mileage is low.....just spinning around shops and friends
    Petrol, Electric, Hybrid all accepted

    What options might work?

Something like this SX4? A little above budget, but an auto.

They aren't too high, but high enough for older people/those with back/hip/knee issues. They also have a bit more of a small car feel for someone used to Micra's etc than jumping up to a Qashqai.

A relative (over 85) recently got an 08 Toyota Prius from a Toyota dealer for under 9,000. It is not too low and easy to drive. The part that was most disconcerting for her was the procedure for starting it up. The guy from a dealer didn't do a great job of explaining it and was more nervous about than she needed to be. When she figured it out she was very annoyed that she had found such a simple thing so difficult.

I would certainly recommend automatic for an older person. The problem is that there aren't that many around second-hand.

Prius would be a bit big....

Was wondering would Juke or Duster do the job? Probably hard to get auto...

That is the thing. There are a fair few second hand priuses around, and they are (obviously) all automatic. They are economical enough and the tax is low. You are actually getting quite a lot of car for not a lot of money if you ask me.

Hard to find a decent Juke for under 10k and Dusters are all diesel and manual afaik.

I dont disagree with you, the size of them is the problem

    Yaris hybrid should be considered.

Don't forget all electric cars are auto , so how about a Nissan leaf , they're good value , and highish seat.

A leaf is a giant compared to an old micra.

She loves my electric but seats are a bit low....

A Leaf would be perfect but doesn't seem to be many around second hand.....

Maybe I'm wrong but I just cannot see an elderly person plugging in a EV regularly to charge. An EV or PHEV might just complicate things unnecessarily for them.

Don't really know much about cars so could be very off the mark but a Hyundai IX20 is fairly compact and has the higher driving position so might be worth looking at.

Don't know if they did an auto in any great numbers,

Kia Soul is very plentiful in auto in the uk though.

Kia venga might be a runner too, same idea as the ix20

Its a big plug, she is old not an idiot :P

She has plugged in mine and finds it easier than trying to wrestle with a diesel/petrol pump

You could get a month out of one full tank. Charging every few days is more hassle, no matter how easy it is.

Having a discussion this evening and she said about 5k if possible, kind of rules out electric....what options might run?
