First of all make sure that you maintain a separate supply for the drinking water as babies and the elderly aren't supposed to drink softened water.

Can I have mod confirmation whether recommendations must be via pm or not?

Why can't babies and elderly drink softened water ?? What does it contain that's a problem ?

Salt. Babies kidneys haven't developed enough to handle more than very small amounts.
Actually I think it's sodium rather than salt as such in softened water.

Sorry Gartz, forgto to actually reply to you.

I have a Clack installed here, moved into a ten year old house some time ago and wanted to draw a line under power, water in, waste out etc.

As part of that I got a lad to install a Clack softener with an Aquaphor drinking water filter. From research the Clack seemed to be best in class.

Only have it in 6 months or so but it's using under half the salt the old one was as it's metered rather than timed. Can't say the exact model though, doesn't seem to have a whole lot of markings on it.

So you reckon clack are a good job?
I got a price for a clake and 6 stage filter for 750.
I got a price for a eco soft and 6 stage filter for 1250.That is some difference....

    I have a Eco Soft.

It's big, full size, fitted in the attic,on the main pipe coming from the street mains, with 1" connections (no water pressure downsizing).
It has a handy remote LCD control that has most of the info i need to know ... today.
Since installed, skin is softer, cottlery cleaner,bath/shower taps and screens crystal clear.
I "feed" with only premium salt.

Does that means is the best on the market !?? Dunno...

The RO is 5 litres and for the softener we had to reuse the carcass of the old one as its an outside mounted one. The new carcass couldn't fit in the enclosure that was built for it. It's 16l as far as I remember.
Family of three using lots of water as one of those is a new born.

I bought a manufacturer reconditioned Atlantis softener on eBay and installed myself. Cost approx €300 all in and couldn't be happier with it. Have only used two bags of salt in 6 months.
