UK Sim with forwarding?

Quick question. I'm currently on eir (iPhone which they should be unlocking), I'll be moving to a prepay from whomever is the cheapest, however, I was thinking of picking up a UK sim so that I could have a UK number also (job hunting).

Obviously, the iPhone only has one sim tray, so I was thinking I could insert the UK sim, set it up & set it to forward to my IE number. I'd put some credit on it (looking for one where I can top up online) & then just put the sim in a drawer for safe keeping.

Does there have to be calls made on the UK sim to keep it valid or is it ok as long as it's being forwarded?

Different networks have different policies. You'll have to check.

Diverting the number will cost you, but as it does it will count as a "chargeable call" so I suspect it should count to keeping the SIM active.
