losing 100mb from modem to router on 2830

    Hi,
So I have a draytek 2830 firewall router and I am losing roughly 100mb from Virgin Modem in Bridge mode to draytek.. I am getting 200-250mb from bridged modem direct to the PC tonight. All to the same server (Blacknight) on broadbandspeedtest.ie

I upgraded the firmware to the latest stock firmware but no difference still down in speed, so all my TS has led me to believe the draytek is fupped and needs replacing.

My question: Is it even worth trying dd-wrt firmware to see if this box can be revived or should I just move on and get a different box at this stage??

Preferably dont want to waste more time on something that more than likey is a fail which this definitely seems.

And if I was to get a new box.. What should I get?? maybe another draytek or even netgear..it has to be some sort of GB firewall router and be roughly the same size as my current draytek as it needs to fit in the same place..

    Any suggestions welcome except
(NO FORTINET SUGGESTIONS) as I hate these.. Bad experiences.

    Regards
    LMD

    From WP Forums:
the official throughput of the WAN to LAN traffic is?

    120Mbps with v3.3.6.1

    Acc to Amazon:
Date First Available 2 Aug. 2011
So the lower spec really really isnt surprising. There are SOHO units from 2014 that'd be just as "slow".

Get a newer Draytek or maybe a Mikrotik (very enthusiast). That or build a PFsense box. Having dabbled with PFSense its probably what I would use personally as its very very expandable.

    Hi Ed E,
thanks for the reply. That statement makes a lot of sense cos when flashing draytek firmware and I could only ever get to about 115mb from the 2830 on the latest firmware . I am actually quite shocked that limitation is there as it is a GB router and even more shocked I did not know about it.

I have heard of the mikrotik routers though I have never used one..

Wow man the Pf sense option is definitely a good one, looks quite fun! Just see Ars have an article on it so might give that a go and get some new learning in too.. Thanks again for that suggestion cos I probably would nit even come acros that..
