Had swmbo annoying me to light the fire cause she was cold. The weather is not as warm as last week but not cold in my opinion. Anyone would be cold watching three hours of soaps of an evening.

The day my fire isn't on is the day they'll be prying the bic lighter from my cold dead hand.

It rarely gets cold in Ireland but 7 degrees in the afternoon at the end of April is most unusual, I don't know who or what swmbo is but she was right asking you to light the molly maguire!

The oil goes on about four o'clock and the fire is lit at five. It's not particularly cold but we'll have a fire to be cosy. The fire heats the water and radiators as well.

Dear god. What are you people huddling in? Plastic bags?!

(Glances at the thermometer) 58.6F, in here. What's wrong with that

I spark my stove up on Novembers Eve. It then burns, 24 / 7 till I decide to man the f**k up and let it go out again.

I'll grant ye; First day of Spring, this year, left me ruing the bloody day! Paddys Day? First Primrose? Dunno. But, no way would it ever enter my head to be lighting a stove at the end of April!

I'd be thinking, if I needed heat, at this time, my home wasn't up to scratch ~ which it always has seemed, for the past dozen years, at least. Or there's some ~ physical? ~ problem, with me.

Warm blooded creatures are rearing young, in unheated places, all around us, as I type this.

    Think On ;)

    She Who Must Be Obeyed

Started reading the OP and had to stop immediately at swmbo until I figured it out.

Was away since last Thursday and couldn't believe how cold it was when I opened the door around 19:30 this evening. Stuck on the oil and headed out to eat, lovely and warm when I got in so was able to switch it off again.

    FYP, you're welcome. ;)

    To answer your question.
    A) I don't believe turf to be a particularly economical fuel source unless one owns a share of a bog.
    B) I don't have my own tractor and trailer to bring it home.
    C) I don't have a shed to store it in.
    D) I'm too "fukkin" lazy.

We live in a country with very mild weather and lots of wind and rain. Us Irish just don't experience - nor could handle, truly cold winters and scorching summers.

But yes, yesterday was Baltic for April. Anyone else remember how unusually cold much of April last year was?

We run the gas off the electricity and the electricity off the gas and we save two hundred pounds a year, but then a few weeks later ah god, I'll never forget it now, we got a new boiler...

My house manages itself, stats outside and inside regulate the underfloor heating, no messing with fossil fuels, ash or complaining wife. Can only recommend.
