I think Today FM's will continue to go south. The chopping and changing of presenters while they got Dermot & Dave and Al Porter put into place won't have helped but I think it is a station that's in decline anyway.

2fm will be more or less the same with perhaps some rises on some shows.

Newstalk breakfast will have taken a nosedive but Pat Kenny and George Hook will see increases in listener figures. Drivetime won't have the figures Hook had bt they'll do OK.

On RTE1 the usual suspects will be much the same as they were.

It's going to be hard to analyse NT's figures because of the time changes and the length of different shows being different. It won't be for another couple of books when we can really look at it.

Its all good news with a small lift in absolutes due to an estimate universe change . Today and 2FM continue to struggle in the big smoke.

Newstalk Breakfast is down, absolutely not surprises there. Great to see Moncrieff have the largest increase on the station after he was stitched up to give time to Hook and his trolling.

I've been enjoying the Moncrieff Show for many years by this stage now, but his show was simply too long. I think him doing 15 hours of live radio solo 5 days a week is way too intense and spreads content, energy and ideas too thin.

Also with his show, unlike many other talk shows, it doesn't rely on either - a) Breaking or current affairs news that can fill/feed into a show or - b) Callers phoning in that help fill time or creates the content of the show.

I think he has done a great job with what he has. I really think him getting a gig presenting The Late Late Show or Saturday Night Show should happen. He's proven before that he's good on tv.

The abomination that is Breakfast Republic is now tying with Ian Dempsey and Fergal Darcy has posted a 5 year high in the 2:30-4:30 slot.
It's a worrying day for radio listenership.

Most popular show with young people...who it's aimed at, so they are doing something right.

Fm104 still number one in Dublin, strong showings from all the shows until 7, Phoneshow needs some work as the figures are very low, possibly the lowest they have ever been really. New presenters though so they will be given a year before being analysed properly. Strawberries are showing some improvement again after some awful books.

98FM have maybe began to level off after a few good books. Although overall the shows have increased, Barry Dunne is down from last year. Most pleasing for them is Breakfast is up massively from the Ray Foley Show, new show is on air a year now and is picking up a decent share. Big Ride Home seems to be up again from this time last year but behind the rest at drive.

Spin 1038. For all the worry of young people abandoning radio, Spin do an amazing job getting listeners in, Ilevel doesn't offer the comparison because they have gone to news at the top of the hour, which could have a negative impact, although news is shorter it seems. Theres probably a glass ceiling somewhere for them, they dont have the general appeal to listeners that 98 and 104 would have, but they are the second biggest dublin only station and 3% behind 104, with 104 losing a chunk of younger listeners recently its interesting to see where it could be in another years time.

Apparently the universe for todays book surveyed more younger listeners. This would explain the stronger books for Spin and 2FM, the former especially so, as well as some of the minor losses for FM104.

To be fair to Spin they know their product and audience and they stick to what they are good at; playing fresh new pop music and keeping the on air product happy and airy.

For 98FM, in Q4 2015 The Ray Foley Show was pulling in 36,000, down from 43,000 year-on year. The Big Breakfast is pulling in 39,000. Don't know if I would classify that as being up massively. Problem for 98FM now is they seem to have peaked and are falling back. Quilty is level book-on-book and up 3,000 year-on-year. Barry Dunne and Dublin Talks both down 2,000 book-on-book. 98FM now 3,000 behind Spin on Breakfast and are being closed in on by Q102 who are now just 5,000 behind (up 6,000 year-on-year). And a LONG way behind FM104 from 6am to 7pm.

Always hard to tell, they are mutlicity, so they are across so many areas. In Dublin its bad year on year they have the least listnership. Station has been on a nosedive for a year by the books but they are marginally up in this book, maybe some positives there and they are probably performing better in other regions.

D'Arcy up 10,000. Dermot and Dave up 12,000 (though not truly reflective as period covered temp fill-ins for Anton etc.) Porter up 7,000 (but nothing to do with him as the period covered mostly Muireann filling in at lunchtimes after D&D swapped to mid-mornings).

I'd give Hook an hour and a half and give Moncrieff another half hour to do his guest slot at the start,it was always popular and interesting.

They al ways have good figures in Cork. Not so much in the other areas. We never see numbers for them niall boylan always says he's up but never mentions numbers.I remember few years ago I heard Gareth had 40000 plus not bad I suppose. I've got bored of 4fm the music is bland not many classics from the stones Beatles police bowie etc

Had they stuck with their original format, they would be a lot stronger in Dublin now, look at how RTE lyric and Sunshine have grown in Dublin, both overtaking 2fm

From a cork point of view I wish tv3 won the licence back then. They promised a cork studio,. I find it very dublin focused they already have nova.

Good catch! The estimated universe increased by 123,000 in this book, an increase of 3.4% and based on CSO data.
Interestingly, the increase in the estimates for 15-24 is up 11.4% - so that going to favour some of the younger orientated stations.
Further, just under half of the increase in that age group were Dublin based.
So, it conspires well for Dublin radio stations with a strong 15-24 base.
