Older cars?

I keep hearing, from both mechanics and the general public, that the insurance companies and the NCT people are trying to get rid of older cars altogether. If so, will this roll forward so that each year any say 15 year old car will be insured and NCTd out of existence? It does seem that the NCT's idea of "advanced corrosion" is becoming increasingly strict, and now refers to nonstructural surface rust. So anyway, if someone bought a 10 year old car now, could they expect to be penalised in 5 years time? Or maybe this is all paranoid delusion....

The test centres are gone daft on corrosion.

A bit of muck is now advanced corrosion

I think the insurance issue is more scammers picking up a €500 1999 Avensis insuring it and then having it involved in a crash with another cheap car also fully loaded with passengers and the insurance payout comes out around €500k for personal injury where scammers initial outlay was €3k or so.

If you are an existing owner of an old car your premium might go up a bit but as soon as it changes hands the new owner will have the trouble getting it insured. He can still get it insured but it will take a bit more effort than usual

I think we all know who the real scammers are when it comes to older cars and insurance!

And who can come up with new laws to fix this: THE LAWYERS

And who also do nice business from all this scamming: THE LAWYERS

The politicians could try and fix it but: BIG SALARIES NEW CARS so NOT IMPACTED.

Insurance companies: INCREASE PREMIUM UNTIL BOOKS BALANCE.

So get used to it. Rant over
