Northern Ireland company check

    Hi

Trying to check if a certain company does exist in Northern Ireland. I tried government.uk and other websites but no luck. We ordered bifolding doors in November 2016 and when deposit was paid (over 2k) the account was in his name trading as xxxxx same as his website name.
I can't find him on active or dissolved list of companies. Cant contact him either as he doesn't answer his phone anymore. Just recently my wife found that he set up new company but the website is not functioning as yet, phone numbers are the same + 1 new one.
What are our options to get our money back? I managed to find out where he lives, so was thinking about trip to face him maybe do a little silent picketing outside his house with couple of banners 😀

Just wondering if he is not registered could I report him to the revenue in Northern Ireland? Also PSNI has a report fraud option on their website

    Any ideas what to do?
    Thank you

If the account is mike murphy trading as blinds and apples it's the sole tradar Mike murphy you are looking for and not a company.

Good point, would it mean then he is not a ltd company?
Next question is can I check anywhere for active sole traders list?

I did all combinations, company names, his names, surnames and location - nothing on the list

As far as I recall there is no requirement to register as a sole trader in the U.K. Other than with HMRC for tax purposes. There is no list.

The good news for you is you did business with the individual rather than a company. That means you can pursue him personally which is marginally better than finding you paid a wound up company.

That's what I actually started thinking Graham, thanks for that. Yes, if he was ltd probably chances of getting money wouldn't be that high.

We are thinking European small claims court might make him think again, it's only €25 for a start. Did anyone got far with small claims court? I know they can't enforce anything only state who owes what...
