I haven't seen a lot but there was one killed on the road outside my house a couple of days ago. As long as I've been knocking around I've never seen a live one unfortunately. I'd love to see some they're lovely little animals

Saw a programme on tv before and a woman had some out the back garden.she put out a can of dog food on a dish at night and they ate it. They got them on camera.grand little animals.if I put out dog food here I'd probably only draw in rats.there must be a good few of them around but like you I don't see many only the unfortunate ones killed by cars

It's just that time of year again when they are on the move and that involves crossing roads unfortunately.

Yes I've seen a good few dead on the road this year alright. Must have been a good year for breeding I think?
My dog discovered a couple too. Thankfully they survived her interference! I think the warmer weather earlier on this year, (we had a few days, weeks ago where it was milder than usual), brought them out of hibernation maybe earlier than normal. I don't know really but there's definitely been an increase in the hedgehogs spotted around here.

How would a lad go about getting a breeding pair of hogeens for the garden.any rescue crowd looking to rehome them.would they tip around and do their own thing at night if you left out food for them

No Hedgehog rescue group rehomes hedgehogs with members of the general public, and rightly so. These are not pets and cannot be restricted to your garden. They can range over a quarter of a mile from their base every night.

I have a hedgehog that comes into my back garden for the last 3 years at winter time, digs down into the mulch at my pond and i don't see him again till feb/march, but mostly at night, he definatly keeps the slugs down. I put some peanuts near his hide every few nights at winter, and he must be eating them through his hibernation. He stinks to high heaven whenever I do get near him...my two jack russels don't seem to be bothered by him, nor he them.

We have 2 in our garden at the minute, saw them last night, there was only 1 for the last 3 years but now he seems to have found a friend.

I doubt it's a hedgehog eating peanuts in winter. An occasional wakening may occur but no hedgehog will wake regularly in winter to eat a few peanuts.

Just spent past half hour watching 3 of them in my garden. Same group from last year I reckon.

I had hedgehogs years ago that used to come to my garbage bags before bins were introduced. One gave birth to four babies under my garden shed. It was lovely to see those babiers come out to play int the evenings on my lawn.

Somehow they succumbed to some form of chest infection and died out. It was heart-breaking to hear them coughing and wheezing under the shed. I wonder was it a form of TB that hit them. This was many years ago.

It's horrible to see them dead on the road, obviously hit while trying to cross the road. Unfortunately just the ciiiircle of life, nature vs modern life.

Just got a great video of a hedgehog scratching himself on y doorstep. Bout 40 seconds long of him scratching before he realised I was there. Then he just strolled off hunting.
