Whatever happened to Telethon ?

I wonder why did RTE stop doing telethon and why tv3 never picked it up ? I wonder was it a case like the rehab scratch cards of a charity costing more to administer than it was bringing in for good causes ?

There are a lot of shows from that era and before on satellite - the higher numbers, so no need to miss them.
