Preventing rust on drilled holes in bodywork

I've got some genuine Nissan mudflaps for my Nissan Pulsar, and the rear ones require me to drill some holes in the bodywork to fit. The positions of the holes are already marked with a punch mark, so I'll be very careful to drill a pilot hole first and I'll put masking tape around the area too, so I'm not too worried about messing that bit up.

However, what I am worried about is rust appearing on the bare exposed metal on the inside of the hole. Is there anything I can use to prevent this, such as a rust treatment such as Kurust, or should I just dab some touch up paint on it? Should I use a rust inhibiting primer first as well?

Touch up paint on a q tip. Sorted.

    Exactly, don't over think it.

Do two coats on a Q tip if you really want and you're set

Thanks. I have a tendency to make things more complicated than they really are :)
