    Re: pinto crank pulley removal

I had another go today, after watching a bike is born with mark evans last night i had an idea.

I refitted the bolt taht holds the pulley on but left it 2mm short of touching the pulley, I then popped my puller on and used the crank bolt to extend the threaded section of the puller.

After a few tense moments, worried about bending the crank bolt, the pulley started to move.

It is now off and on my kitchen table.

It 115mm diameter with a 42mm diameter hole once the spacer had been removed, so will now get on with ordering my trigger wheel.

If anyone else was to do this,

Soak with WD40 for a good couple of hours and dont spare the WD40, when I removed the pulley quiet a bit came out.
use crank bolt, with 2mm clearance to the pulley, as the bit the puller levers on
be patient and only leave between 2-5mm gap between bolt and pulley at a time to minimise risk of bending the bolt.
Be careful at the end that there is enough thread engagement, by the time this would be a problem the pulley should just come off in your hands, if not be careful not to strip any threads.

Thanks to all you guys for the advice, put me in the right direction of what to do, again.

thanks, that's very encouraging.. I was using a small washer to stop the puller pulling itself into the bolt hole (tried a coin but it just bored through it) I'll try the bolt without it's washer, it won't obstruct the pulley that way.
