Hi just got a €900+ quote for replacement of rear calipers + pads from a main dealer which seems excessivly high. While I would expect a bit of a main dealer tax so to speak, wondering what a ballpark figure from an indy garage be, or are the parts just really that expensive (2013 model)?

Refurbished caliper and new pads from a goody indy shouldnt come in much dearer than 200

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 943 ✭✭✭trabpc

Done an old accord last week 140 for one rear caliper with pads so 280 for both rear.
    Go to an indy

    Does it really need calipers?

It's a Mazda 6 so it surely needs them :pac:

In my case yes. Burning smell from rear as caliper stuck and red hot disks. One went in nov other in april. Unusual for 2 to go at same time thought.

Regular indy mechanic didn't seem overly surprised anyway :) said they are both gone. Newer model so couldn't find aftermarket parts from any suppliers except direct from Mazda @€;300 bucks a pop . But he is going to have a go at salvaging existing if possible..

Seems the caliper issue is the subject of a recall in the US I must find out if Mazda europe will be participating in this recall. Got them reconditioned in the meantime by Indy.

The rest of Europe including the uk may honour the recall but Mazda Ireland probably won't...as usual.

How could they deny it though when it would be recalled in other parts of Europe? This isn't the first time I've seen a car have an issue in the UK or Ireland that was actually recalled in the US.

less than 400 for both my rear callipers, supplied and fitted. 14 insignia

thought that was quite expensive but it seems opel like to charge for their parts ;)

fitted by an indy, labour was fcuk all.

Got an initial generic email response from Mazda UK (its an import), basically don't call us we'll call you should there ever be a recall. So it seems to be US/Canada only thus far.

I checked a few parts websites in the US and it certainly seems to be the same part on the manual handbrake versions as here so there is certainly no safety reason why the EU is thus far excluded.

Seems the Mazda Atenza (which seems to be a brand name for the 6 in China) is also getting a recall in China so not sure what my next steps will be but I don't see myself going quietly into the night on this one.

Mazda uk currently have a recall to replace the boot lid struts and loose drivers seats on the Mazda 6 hatchback (08-12 model) Many uk owners have had recall letters about it. I rang my local Mazda dealer about it and I may as well have rang the local Chinese restaurant to order a bucket of paint for all the good it done. They were basically clueless and the idiot I was speaking to had difficulty in comprehending what a boot strut actually was. The loose driver seat has been an issue since the 2nd gen Mazda 6 was released in 2008 but the numpty I was speaking to had never come across it despite his claimed 'I've been with Mazda over 15yrs" qualification.

Let me if you get any follow up on that? mine's exactly the same.

    Mazda recalls 2, 3, and 6

    MAY 1, 2017

Mazda Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of certain models of the 2, 3 and 6.

The vehicles in question were manufactured between:

    Mazda2 (DE)  19 June 2007 and 11 September 2010;Mazda3 (BL) 17 December 2008 and 30 September 2010;Mazda6 (GH) 3 August 2007 and 31 August 2010.

Insufficient material properties can lead to the failure of the seat height adjustment. The resulting increased movement causes rattling noises under the seat. In extreme cases, this can result in the seat frame tilting over. There is a potential risk that the connection between the seat and the chassis will loosen particularly in the event of a rear-end collision, which can lead to injuries.

There are 6,963 of these vehicles on the Irish market.

    What to do

Mazda Ireland will be writing directly to those owners involved to arrange to have their vehicles refitted.  The letter will advise you to contact your nearest Mazda dealer who will arrange to do the refit free of charge.  You can also contact Mazda Ireland directly on: 01 2334700

I'll ring my local dealer again and see if they're any more knowledgeable on the recall now as it was roughly 2 months ago that I last contacted them.

Asked them a few tough questions in an email with regards to parts used in various markets and radio silence since :). Also found the same recall in Japan for 50,000 vehicles so I'm going to keep annoying them for sure.

Got the car back yesterday, had a look under the seat and looks like they replaced the snapped height adjustment bar, new star bolts, and secured them in place with a massive bracket which clamps both sides of the height bar and the star bolts to the base of the seat.

    Fingers crossed that doesn't break.

Did you have to contact them or did they contact you?

Can you tell me if this only applies to UK models or are Irish models up for the recall too?

Do you have an article for the recall?

    Mine's an Irish car.

There's not too much info from any articles out there.

My mother was quoted €1,500 to replace rear sticking drums on a Peugeot 207 from a main dealer. They said it needed drums, pads and wheel bearings on the rear to fix the issue. I got an indy to free them up for just over €100.
