Can anyone recommend a good private primary school in south Dublin, for example Dublin 4 or Dublin 18?

We are new to Ireland so thanks for the great help!

There are very few private primary schools in Ireland.
I know of a few people with kids in http://www.kilians.com/ and it is an excellent school.
Have you a preference with regards to religion?
If you like the montessori method, all primary montessori schools in ireland are private.

Not quite your criteria in terms of location but all private. Castle Park, Dalkey or St Gerard's, Bray or St Andrews, Booterstown. None cheap! Castle Park is the only one without an attached secondary school. Hope this helps

Thank you so much BobbyBingo, we work in Dublin 4, but do not live there as too expensive!! So those schools you mentioned are all with good reputation? That will be great!

Yes all good reputation. Castle Park would get a lot of embassy children and also expats visiting Ireland on the multinational circuit for 3 years - as a consequence the classroom mix is very international and there is 'churn' every year with families returning home and new families arriving.

    Hi
My son attends the John Scottus School in BallsBridge. It's co-ed ans non religioustop. Very small class sizes. Fees approx 4k per year. But that includes all books and all food.
    I can't fault it!

You could try the Childrens House School in Stillorgan - Primary Montessori.

Just curious - why is 'private' your main criteria? Private primaries in Ireland are strange beasts that don't come under usual Dept Education regulation.

Yes & no! The senior school is moving to Bray and a new junior school opening there. The current junior school on Northumberland Road will be staying where it is.

This is an excellent point that many parents are not aware of until they run into difficulty. Had my kids in a private primary and when we ran into difficulty realised that some private primary schools are not regulated by department of education and we effectively had no recourse other than Tusla who don't seem to have any real statutory power over the schools they regulate...

However, I notice that some private primary schools have department of education roll numbers and some do not e.g. Mount Anville has a DOE roll number for both the primary school and secondary school whereas Loreto on Stephens Green only seems to have a roll number for the secondary school??? (no affiliation to either school)

Afaik, TUSLA role is similar to a creche or pre-school, so they monitor general welfare and safety, but don't monitor education as such.

I think Mount Anville has two primary schools, one private and one public, so presumably the roll number refers to the public one.

Tusla are only there to check that your child is attending school but I don't think they even get involved in child safety and protection as they say it's outside of their scope.
In terms of Mount Anville, why would they have two primary schools on the same premises, how does that work?

Mount Anville National School is totally separate to Mount Anville private secondary & primary schools

I think they are on two different premises - one on Lr Kilmacud Road (the public one afaik) and the private one on the same premises as the secondary.
