    Hi

I bought a Yamaha AS501 and a couple of pairs of SX60s from you good folks about 1 year ago.

I would like to add a subwoofer and the AS501 has a subwoofer output. Can you please recommend a decent budget option. Not sure if I need passive or active you might be able to advise?

    Thanks
    T

    Hi T.

Thanks for coming back to us.

You would require an active sub to run on the AS501.

There are a few subwoofers I could recommend for you.

The Yamaha NSSW050 priced at £119.00
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202403-nssw050.aspx

The Cambridge SX120 to match your speakers priced at £149.00
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-12468-sx120.aspx

Or the fantastic Q Acoustics 2070 priced at £189.00
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-11480-2070i-gr.aspx

Delivery on any of the above would be £6.99

Let me know if any of these catch your eye.

Any questions drop me a post.

    OK
Like the sound of matching the speakers to the sub.

Any chance of a deal on the SX120. I see you did a nice deal recently:

Also can you please advise on the cabling required from AS501 to SX120.

    Thanks

Happy to go £135 on the SX120 as a Boardie deal :)

You will need a subwoofer cable - like this:
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-10545-aud500-75m.aspx

The total retail is just under £180 - for the two on a boardie deal I'll do them at £149.99 with delivery thrown in :)

    Keep us posted,

As noted above I bought a yamaha as501 amp plus 2 sets of speakers (sx60) and a sub(sx120) from RS Belfast over the past year or so. Happy with everything.

There are 2 speaker channels on the AS501 and I have 2 speakers in each of 2 rooms.

I'd like to add a third room to this setup if possible. I would only have the speakers on in 1 or 2 rooms at a time - never all 3 together.

Is there some sort of switch setup available to support this.

    Hi Tradtshirt.

I would not recommend to connect and run 3 pairs of speakers on the AS501 at same time to avoid it over heating or being over driven and causing damage to it.

If you wanted to add in a speaker witch to control which speakers are on at any one time you could fit the BTech BT12 2 wat switch priced at £14.95
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-11702-bt12.aspx

Or the QED SS30 coming in at £84.95 - 3 way switch.

    Hi RS,

Im thinking of buying the Yamaha AS501, i have a pair of active JBL LSR 305's and i am wondering what subwoofer would be suitable for the AS501 to drive (im into hip hop, so i like a good kick drum) and to compliment the 305's? Also bear in mind i want to integrate a Technics 1210 and my TV output thru the amp thu the speaker system.

Im aware i need a sub that has a crossover that allows to match the 305's frequency response?

Does the AS501 allow for a high pass crossover?

    All the best.

    Hi Killilea92.

To be honest I'm not sure which subwoofers if any have a built in High Pass crossover.
I'd need to go and check spec sheets for each sub to work this out if possible.

Pretty much any sub woofer would work with your JBL speakers. it really depends at what level you want to jump in at and how much of a budget you have for the sub.
You would want the subwoofer to take over the low frequencies from the JBL rather than product the same frequencies. The subwoofer should be able to produce low frequencies that the JBL's can not.

Have a look over the links above and check if any of those might suit.

The only other issue is that the AS501 is now an in-store only collection and we are unable to have them shipped.

    Killiea92,

Going back a stage - TBH the AS501 isnt really a suitable amp for your speaker set-up - as your JBL's are active you would be better served with either a pre-amp or a mixer rather than an integrated amp like the Yamaha AS501 - none of the integrated amps that we sell will have a separate High pass outlet - this is normally what you would see on Pro or PA equipment.

If you went with the AS501, you could add a sub no problem and use the 'rec outputs' on the AS501 but as there are no pre-amp outputs you would have to adjust the sub levels from the AS501 and the speaker levels via the individual speakers which would be a real PITA.

I think you would be better to get a pro. pre amp or use a small mixer to achieve what you want to do?

if i stuck with the simple set up and then added different components later. What pre amp would you recommend just to get started? (one ye have in store/ other ones ye dont) dont mind the price but im just looking for one to get me going with my technics

Im assuming i can output my tv to the speakers w/o a pre amp?

    regards,
    K

    Hi Killilea92.

Any of the turntable pre amps we stock would also require a stereo amp to connect into as there are no speaker connections. Again they would not be able to run the JBL speaker that you currently have.

The pre amp is just there to boost the sound level of the turntable before it hits the amp. It would be the amp part that would have all your connections and speaker terminals.

For us to get you up and running with your turntable you would require either a pre-amp, amp and speakers or an amp with built in pre-amp and a set of speakers. The Amp part would also require a digital input for connecting your TV as more stereo amps don't include this as they are designed for two channel stereo. Many also do not include a sub pre out either.

I hope this is of help.

Any questions drop me a post.
