This 1.0 litre ford focus is 22,645 plus the following.

'This is the recommended retail price for the model shown excludes; promotions, delivery and related charges'

Does anyone know how much extra the above extra charges would be?

    Cheers

It's usually a fixed figure across the range and you'll find it in the official price / product guide for the car. No idea why they exclude it from ads and the likes as the number is the same for every dealer and the customer has to pay it. No idea about Ford but for new VW's it's about €750.

Manufacturers shouldn't be able to advertise prices that don't include the delivery cost.

I wonder if they do same thing anywhere outside of Ireland?

As usual, the idea is a UK import.

I'm currently pricing a new car and I find the RRP advertised on websites is way off the mark from how much the dealers want for the car, it's very frustrating when you look up online and find a car you like that's in your budget then go to the dealer and they want a couple of grand more for the same model of car

Fiat did for a few years. There obviously was a reason they stopped, what it was I don't know.

I came here to find out about the same thing. I went in about looking to buy a Hyundai tuson and I asked for a price list and was told they don't have any for second hand cars. I told him I wasn't looking for a second hand car that I wanted a new one and how much id be looking at with a trade in.
He then told me to look at the website for the prices, so on my way out I seen a price list for new cars and took it with me to find a €1400 difference between the retail price and asking price from the garage. It's safe to say I won't be returning there to buy one over the way he delt with a potential customer.

Well they probably stopped because their prices appeared to be higher. Just make it a rule across all manufacturers and be done with it.

I read that delivery charges are listed separately to the retail price because if the importers included them then they would be subject to vat and vrt making the price even more.

    Nissan is €1000 afaik.

New Hyndai Kona Executive model is €22,995 excluding delivery and related charges.

Went to a dealer last Saturday and same model costs €25,000

They are subject of VAT, but VRT remark is a very good one.

On that though, half of the optional equipment should be free, just the activation fee paid to the dealer. Would drive the prices further down...

I have been looking at a Hyundai i30 and the difference between the recommended price and the garage price is 2k. Is this the norm or unique to Hyundai dealers. Seems excessive to me. Are the dealers taking more than their fair share or am I naive??

Dealers often just include the metallic paint in the listed price.

You are right, didn't think of that. What would metallic paint come in at? 500-600 euro?

Around that, but might climb up on bigger cars.

    this is an honest question..

but what are the reasons someone would have the car delivered? if living in ireland?

You pay to have it delivered from the manufacturer to Ireland and then to the dealer.

Your not paying to have it delivered to your door.

The 'delivery cost' normally covers the transport of the car to the dealer,PDI,cleaning the car, number plates, mats, mudflaps etc, fuel and everything else that goes along with having your car ready for when you collect it

As far as I am aware certainly with BMW, you can collect it at the factory if you want, waiving the delivery fee. So if you can wangle a €30 flight to Germany and fancy a spin across Europe, its certainly worthwhile doing so. As long as you aren't collecting a V12...

How do you go about arranging registration, tax and insurance to do that?

You pay for the car, dealer registers it in your name. Get the plates printed, tax and insure the thing and fly to Germany?!

That’s not available for Irish or U.K. customers.
Mainly American customers do this I think. Called European delivery. Pick up your car in Munich, drive it for a holiday and then bring it to port where it’s crated up and you collect again a few weeks later back in US.

IIRC Porsche charge YOU for factory pickup.
