We rescued a baby blackbird that was being attacked by a magpie. It's head is injured but he is very much alive atm and is recovering in the box we put him in. We took him in because this was the second attack in 2 days and also there is a cat around. They knew he was there. He would be be killed if left out.

I need to know what to feed him. He has refused mashed boiled egg but I think it is because he is still in shock after attack.

Any other advice would be great , thank you.

Contact one of the wildlife rescues. You will probably have to gently open his beak & put some food in, just a small amount.

I'd go further and release him now. We have plenty of daylight left. The sooner the better really. It may seem a bit cruel but it's the best thing.

Sadly no :( . He was very badly injured in the head and was dieing the whole time. We didn't leave him out in the end as the magpie was still around and it was very cold, plus he was rolling over on himself. We put him in the box overnight so he could have some peace but died at about 11pm.

thanks, It was pretty sad as we had been looking out at him the last few days watching him being fed. Nature is pretty brutal when you see it up close like that.

Just wondering will the parents have another brood if anybody knows? I hear one parent out singing tonight. The nest was next door and I'm pretty sure it was not successful.

They will usually have 2 to 3 clutches of up to 5 eggs each. This pair will probably now have time for 3.
