Stupid question

Don't laugh, but to many I'm sure this is a stupid question.

Cleaning the plug hole (or whatever it's really called) and I noticed what seems to be some silicone coming away. It looks like the piece (whatever it's called) is screwed in place - should I consider getting the silicon out and adding a new seal? (Assuming I do just wondering if worth the hassle).

    I'll try add a pic

    Thanks

I dunno if it's not though. There is a hairline crack in my ceiling beneath where it is which has been there a while but not sure if it's a coincidence that it's there or maybe caused by some damp... But there is no obvious leak like water dripping or wet patches

If there was a leak you'd see some kind of staining on your ceiling
