Car audio... Telly

I am looking at options for a stereo in my car... one with a telly screen so that I can use Android Auto to play music from Deezer, navigate by Google Maps or Here Maps...

The one that stands out to me is the Pioneer 4200NEX, but the European variations and model numbers are mind boggling!!!

I don't need anything elaborate, just a decent screen, good audio quality to connect to my factory Alpine amp & speakers with Android Auto built in...

    What do you recommend?

Halfords have a few ex display similar pioneers at the moment. May be a saving to be made if there's one there you want.

The car is a jeep wrangler... I'm in the Middle East, so Halfords isn't convenient. I'm familiar with the US models, but am utterly confused by the models in the European market (which are trhe same as what we get here, as far as I can tell)...

The tone of that thread seems to be 'what is the cheapest ****e we can afford in Ireland without getting raped on the price'... No mention of any brands I actually know... It seems we just can't have nice things and have to take what we're given... Our government needs to kop on and get us back to na competitive level with the rest of the world...

I'm not really interested in ex display... all you do is compromise on quality and live in fear that some kid has squeezed chewing gum into the cd slot at some stage...

I just wanted to know a little more about the European specs so that I could purchase and get it installed from one source... It may be a better idea to buy the Pioneer from Crutchfield in the US and fit it myself....

Reading a little further... these are Android OS headunits... not Android Auto. I'm looking for Android Auto...

We can get a range of cheap Android headunits here including units with 10" screens... But I want to retain the functionality of my U-Connect System and keep my usb connected to the center console... The Android units are buggy and not designed for purpose... Android Auto is a fully integrated system and the UI looks great.,

If you have the choice buy the European model, US tuners still aren't on a par with ours.

Contact a Pioneer dealer (NOT Halfords) in Ireland or the UK (or locally to you if available) by phone/email & tell them what you are looking for. They will probably be hesitant at first to give you too much information as it is common now for people to use their local car accessory dealer to window shop before purchasing the unit from some place in China.

I used to be in this business but I don't know the model specs anymore. I'd still recommend Pioneer though, always top class units.

Thanks for the feedback... I have been doing allot of research and identified the Pioneer BT-X8800 as having similar featuresd to th 4200NEX... However, I couldn't find a site that gave me that stereo & all the correct connectors & give me the confidence that I'll get all the features I want... namely the usb in the centre console, plug and play with my existing pioneer amp, vehicle readouts (engine, tyres etc) & the JEEP UConnect system...

Crutchfield make the process so simple & I saved at least 200euros... So I went with the US model & will fit it myself.

I did look into the radio station formats between US & Euro models and all should be okay with a modern system like this... but I'm willing to risk it, as I don't listen to much radio.

I installed the Telly at the weekend: Pioneer 4200NEX. As usual, it was a scary experience removing the dash & cutting wires, but it done now & the stereo is superfantastico. I'm impressed with Android Auto, it is simple and gives me lots of function. Maps isn't as easy to read as it is on the phone... There are lots of highways here that split into three and it can be difficult to know which lane to be in. It also disables the phone while operating, which is a very good thing and it stops me playing with the phone while I'm driving (a bit frustrating, but I'll actually benefit from it).

@TherapyBoy you were dead right... US radios use odd numbers and European's use even, so I'm not able to tune in some stations, but I have fixed that by using TuneIn Radio, which also means I have easy access to Irish Stations. I can listen to Pat Kenny Live.

I'm going to install a Belkin HDMI Cast dongle, so I can stream YouTube or Movies; I'll also add a reverse camera & I've discovered an additional cable that will allow me to use the existing USB cable in the center console...

The steering controls work great & the sound is very clear from the microphone... although sometimes the Google lady has difficulty understanding me...
