Could someone help me with the phonetic pronunciation of some places in Cavan - spell it out as it sounds:
How is "Lavey" pronounced - is it lay-vee or laah-vee?
How is "Behey" pronounced - bee-hee or beh-hee?
    Stradone is: strad-own?
    Leiter is: letcher or letter?

My daughter used be on the Dublin Cavan bus, when it would reach the Lavey Inn several young people would get on their phones and say " I'm at the Laahvee, Mammy"
It became a sort of bye word in our house

Don't get too hung up on it. You have to remember most townland names are bastardised English spelling of original Gaelic names, but still have some pronounciation of the original. When you look up the name, it begins to make sense!

We always seem to emphasize the centre portion of a name place.

Or Bellananagh, which is almost unpronouncable, but commonly just spelled Ballinagh and pronounced Ba-lin-ya
