Hi sometimes when I am in 1st gear and release the clutch to biting point there is a small whine from the clutch. There is no issue with the performance of the clutch. This whine seems to be intermittent and only really occurs when taking off on hill start.

Any idea what the whine is and more importantly is the clutch going?

    Thanks

Probably the release bearing going. Better off just getting the complete clutch replaced. TGhat 1.6 Diesel engine does not have a DMF.

What kind of money would I be talking about there?

I'll leave it tho until it gets a lot worse

    Thanks

€500ish far as I know. That's what my mechanic friend quoted for an i30

Depends on if 5 or 6 speed car, clutch kit prices do vary. Exedy/LUK kit should retail about €120 plus vat, don't pay anymore than that for the kit. As for the labour, not should how involved it is to get into the gearbox on those.
