Log cabin versus brick shed

    Hi all,

We're thinking of putting some kind of log cabin or shed in our back garden. Small enough to be exempt from planning permission. It'll be for a washing machine and maybe office/storage. Value wise - whats the best way to go. We've just bought our house so money is a bit tight.

    Thanks,

    Aoife

I'd wait and build block with a proper finish and render etc
I've seen many of the timber log sheds go to ruins but they can last of looked after.

    Price up both options.

Also something like a steeltech shed would be more than emerging for what you need.

What size are you looking to build?

Probably something about 5m x 4m. It'll need to be plumbed. Preferably with a window in it.

Any idea of the cost options on what you mentioned?

Probably 10-15k at least given the requirement for plumbing and electrics.
Timber frame can work well and be long lasting. The key is to build on a raised foundation that the wall cladding overlaps so that everything is kept dry. Proper roofing and good overhangs would also be a big help for longevity.
