Hi, having problems with the car (04 cmax)feeling farely sluggish and a bit of jerking/hesitation .
Plugged in my obd and basically said its a frozen egr .
Was looking at blanking it,anyone know the positives/negatives ?
Online I can see its meant to make the car more responsive.
And if its a pig of a job?

Some do it using a cut out piece off a coke can or that but giviving it a good drive higher then 2.5k revs for 30 minutes usually keeps it in order.

    Have you tried cleaning?

Was gonna get a piece of steel from eBay for a few quid.
I usually give it a good drive ,not much stop start driving at all.
Only noticed it 2 days ago, have been given it a good blast (near red line) to see if it clears the soot out but to no luck.
That's why I thought f it might block it.

Those 1.6TDCi have 3 major problems, DMF, Turbo and EGR. Not sure about blanking it, but I know if you don't put a Valeo (OE) EGR in you will have problems.

Yep mine had 2 of the 3 problems in the space of a month now the third one egr.
Ye was told that if its not an original ford one it won't last long.
Wondering if the car will fail Nct if I block the egr as it will put the management light on?

Yes, that will be an NCT failure. Not sure about this car but many need to be "remapped" if disconnecting/blanking the EGR valve, as they will either complain or not run very well.

I have blanked the same engine in Mazda 3 and it does not give an ECU error. You just need to loosen the two EGR bolts to drop the plate in. Its pretty straight forward but I did have to move the diesel filter and the bracket out of the way to get to the EGR.

    Just an update.
Ordered blank plate Monday, arrived Wednesday morning.
Got stuck in with a mate yesterday afternoon.
Pretty straight forward, hardest part is getting the wipers and scuffle off :p. Had to remove fuel filter and mount as well to get access to it.
Mate had 2 other used egr valves from other cars.
Took mine out, thing was full of black soot(?).
We weren't sure how the valve was meant to operate correctly so stuck what we thought was the best looking one :p.
Stuck the blank plate in. Changed the alternator belt while we were at it.
Turned on ,no engine management light :D:D
Car runs sooooo much better now. Delighted.
