Windows XP PC hard drive..

I had a Windows XP PC and for whatever reason it stopped working and couldnt seem to be fixed, so i bought a Windows 7 laptop. I removed the hard drive, soundcard and drives(CD/DVD and floppy) with the intention of using them again somehow. I thought id be able to buy a tower in which i could install the sound card, hard drive and drives(CD/DVD and floppy) like an external drive. However as yet i have not managed how to, if i could at least salvage the files off the hard drive that would be great and was hoping someone on here would know how?

To get the files off the hard drive all you need is one of these. Can be got even cheaper from China.

If its WinXP it's quite likely/possible the drives are IDE - an older connective format which was replaced a long time ago by SATA.

You can get IDE - SATA converters which will allow you to connect the hard drive to a newer PC to get data off it, though it's not worth re-using it in a newer PC as it would be really slow.

Sound card would be PCI which could be used in some modern PC's (however many won't have a PCI slot anymore either) - but besides that, modern onboard sound is good enough to make any such card totally redundant.

If it's a SATA drive you can just connect it to any computer just fine.

You could get a kit such as this for the hard drive. It is also possible to purchase external USB Floppy drives if you have floppys with data you need to recover

For SATA you'll need a SATA data cable,from the old PC if you still have it, also need a power supply
