hi... I'm currently renting privately but need to move closer to my kids school. the rent is double what I'm paying now in my hometown.
Can you get approval for rent allowance before looking for a house?
I'm on a state benefit atm.

No; you have to have the house first.

Best is to call Threshold on Monday . They will know if you qualify. Also read the Citizens info page.

also find your local CWO and have a chat with him/her.

You will then be able to see if you will qualify
