Need to book a room in Dublin for a few weeks time ,weekday. Do prices tend to come down closer to the date or best to book now?

I'd be doubtful Booking.com would significantly discount room rates closer to the date.

I'll often book on the day or a day in advance using Priceline's 'express deals' option. It'll give you the hotels star rating, review score & area, but you won't discover the name of the hotel itself 'til you've paid.

I use it quite a bit in EU & US & have consistently bagged hotels I've been more than satisfied with, often at considerable discount.

A few weeks time would be near/or summer, I can only see them rising. You should look around for discount codes that may be available.

    Doubtful.

Best bet is using discount codes on other hotel sites, Booking.com doesn't allow discount codes - I have one for http://www.eBookers.ie at the moment, SPRING14 which gives 14% off. I used it for two hotels in Iceland which saved me over €150.

Also, use Skyscanner hotels/KAYAK/Momondo or Trivago to see which hotel sites are the cheapest before booking on any specific site.

A lot of hotels will guarantee you the lowest price if you book direct with them. I have often played the hotel off against Bookings.

I do this too. Always shoot the hotel an email with a screenshot of the 3rd party price and see what happens. A good few times though they said they wouldn't beat it and to just book on the 3rd party site. It's funny; most of the time the official hotel site is way more expensive than the 3rd party sites.

Maybe book with a free cancellation hotel now and if it drops closer to the date. Cancel your old booking and book at the cheaper price
