    Hi guys,

I'll be heading to Italy soon and plan to pop up to Modena for the day.

The plan is to see the Ferrari museum, the Lamborghini museum and factory tour and maybe the Pagani tour.

Has anyone done these and have any advice on what was best, how long each took and any other general tips on seeing the best metal in the day.....?

    Many thanks,

    OS

I've been there. Ferrari factory tour isn't good. You are on a bus with no photography allowed. Museum is pretty good for a Tifoso.

    Pagani is good.

    Didn't see the Lambo place.

If I was back there (lovely part of the world) I'd try and see one of the motorbike manufacturers - Ducati (Bologna).

I did a few of them about 4 years ago. Doing it again next week actually so could report back with a fresh mind:)

Another one worth adding to the list is the Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena itself, on the site of his fathers garage. I found that better than the actual one near the track tbh. It's hidden away off a normal looking street but once you walk up past the entrance it extends to a huge complex.

There's a tour service that covers all three in the one day. IIRC it was "Motorstars" - their website is terrible but the tour itself it's pretty good, because the guy that is on the tour is in and out of these factories every single day and knows all the workers. It's a full 9am - 6.15pm day, so you might be a bit tired after it.

You can't get into the ferrari factory tour unless you own a Ferrari (and present your keys upon arrival as proof of ownership). Unless that's changed since I got there.

They do bring you alongside the factory in a bus and you'll see some prototypes flying around in car camo on the roads though. Similarly they run by the Ferrari test tract, but you're sort of looking through a fence at it from an odd angle. It's the best you can do really. The museum is quite good though.

Lambo factory is massive. The outer part which is public access is essentially a massive showroom with most if not all of their models on show. The factory itself is no photography allowed, you're required to put phones, cameras, etc into a lockbox before entering the facility. Once inside you're brought on a guided tour around all the stations while cars are being built. It's pretty interesting to see.

Pagani factory is probably the most interesting because they really are hand built cars. When I was there they were still in their smaller factory, although they had just opened a larger facility. I'm not sure which one you'd get brought to now, probably still the old one because it's so iconic.

It's very small, so there's not much inside. They have a lovely Zonda sitting in the only real showroom space and probably a Huayra now. Also Horatio Pagani was there just knocking about.

Once you get brought into the building facility, you can actually see people hand building the cars. At the time I was there, it was still only Zondas - and funnily enough I got to see Lewis Hamiltons Zonda LH just being finished and prepped for delivery.

Also got to see a Zonda R driving around. The sound is something I'll never forget.

I'd revommend you drive up to Arese to the Alfa Romeo museo. It was great.

I'm not mad into bikes so that might be lost on me...

I heard that the organised tours a un-necessarily expensive... I'll rent a car and do my own thing I think...

I must bring my Ferrari keys for the factory tour so!! ;)

I'd love to see the pagani plant but if it's very small, I might give that one and miss.

Ferrari and Lambo are top of the list as it stands... If I can drag my wife to another one, then defo the pagani plant!!

I'll be staying near Florence, so modena is an ok spin but Arese might be a little too far.... Good idea though....

I did both the Ferrari museum and the enzo ferrari museum in modena (building with the yellow roof) last summer, i enjoyed every second of both museum, for me i think the enzo museum was slightly better because of all the history.

i also did a 15 minute drive around maranello streets in a ferrari 458 just outside the main factory museum, it wasn't cheap (120 euros) but i will remember it for life, cant say the same for the museums.

Rent something nice and take the old road to Sienna through all the vineyards and thank me later.

You take an 60s alfa spider, and they can follow you in the rent a car! (if they can keep up)
and stop by some of the older towns along the way in Tuscany, i did San Gimignano 2 years ago , very nice but busy during summer. a smaller town near there is also beautiful but not as well known Certaldo old town, its at the top of a hill, you need to park the alfa (lol) at the end of the hill in the new town and get a angled train or "funicular" up to the old town. Really nice memories.

Lambo tour is an eye opener in terms of the integration with Audi, car park full of audis, a lot German reg'd too. Factory itself is almost an assembly kit facility where they assemble the bits most of which are shipped from Germany. It's an interesting tour but it's common for some areas to be off limits as they are assembling a yet to be released car. Museum is very interesting where you get to see some funky concepts and plenty of poster cars.

Like all factory tours no photos allowed.

Ferrari tour is difficult to arrange and I wasn't able, but I thought the museum and town were worth the spin.

Zonda factory is between both, I just drove past, didn't go in. It's a small set up but a few cars were parked outside / being driven around.

All in all definitely an enjoyable day out.

Be prepared for the tolls, think I spent €55 on tolls the day I drove down from Milan
