Like the title says... Looking for inspiration for a break away. Not a lounger type holiday but one where there are sites to see and good food. Any recommendations? Budget would along the lines of as cheap as possible! Would be looking to airbnb

Do you have any particular preferences and when are you going? Where have you been to already in Europe? That will help people to give you better suggestions.

Going the last week of June. Has to be then due to work commitments. We have heard that Florence is amazing and while I have been to Rome my partner hasn't. We have been to London Brussels Krakow and the algarve so far.

You could do Barcelona with a day in salou to break it up

One of the nicest places I ever was in was Rovinj in northern Croatia, by the coast.
I was there 5years ago and it wasnt expensive.
Small town but fabulous (have a look at some pics on google)
from there we went to Ljubliana in Slovenia (by bus) not too far.
Again a gorgeous little city, pleasantly surprised and had some lovely food.
You could also take in Lake Bled area in Slovenia, amazing.
I think Ryanair or aer lingus fly to Pula. Venice is not too far away either but crazy busy and hot in summer and not cheap.

Malta or Lisbon. Plenty to see in 5 days, including easy day trips.

If you're looking for "cheap as possible", perhaps a city in eastern Europe? I see you've been to Krakow already. I'd also recommend Prague or Budapest. One of my favourites is Budapest. Cheap enough to fly to with Ryanair and accommodation is very cheap also. Plenty to do and see over a few days and everything is very affordable.

If you want to stay in western Europe, Lisbon as mentioned above is a great shout also.

+1 for Budapest, really really enjoyed it when I went with the OH earlier this year.

I would go for Budapest too. It's awesome in summer.

Prague is another great city. Amsterdam is more expensive but nice.

Lisbon or Porto are fab, I also really liked Santander but that's more for a weekend break. I loved Amsterdam and Prague but I wasn't mad about Budapest and I was there twice. Dubrovnik is really lovely, was there twice but that was before the whole Game of Thrones thing broke so it might be mental now. Santiago de Compostela is also lovely for a short break. Other places I would recommend are Copenhagen, Palma, Riga and Rome. Malta is also really good, been there several times.

Vigo in North West Spain. Love the place. Not too touristy. Loads to do and easy day trips. Cheap as chips. Think Ryanair still fly direct from Dublin

Fly to Biarritz with Ryanair or Bilbao with Aer Lingus and spend a few days in San Sebastián three fab beaches in the city great nightlife and it's the food capital of Europe but great value to be had. Great surfer spot too and shops to die for. Totally different vibe to Madrid or Barcelona as they are basque but definitely worth a visit

Surprised that Berlin hasn't been mentioned yet as it is one of those cities you have to scratch off the list ASAP.
It's so casual and cool, even a little grubby, but also has the most laid back and friendliest vibe of any European capital city. It's also extremely affordable with plenty of cheap accommodation, superb transport connections and plenty to see and do.
The Berliners love to speak English as well if the German isn't up to standard.

Nantes is only an hour and 20 minutes away. Hop on the train and visit the coast, Le Croisic at end of line. Or inland to Clisson.

+1 I did the exact same a couple of years ago. Probably best trip I ever had. Bled an hour by train from Ljubljana, both fantastic places to go and about an hour and a half by bus from some great spots in Croatia.
    I couldn't imagine you'd make a better choice, amazing.
Stay away from Florence, it's mental this time of year. You're crammed in ever where, it's expensive, and you'll spend hours upon hours queuing.
Berlin might be a simpler alternative, I fecking love Berlin

If you're interested in WW2 then Munich is a must, I go every year

There's plenty of other sights as well if you're not interested in WWII. It's very cheap to do day trips by train.

Man I love Munich, Dachau concentration camp and the 3rd Reich walking tour, I do it every year, the wife hates it haha
    And of course, Octoberfest

Budapest for 2 nights, ferry down the Danube to Bratislava for a night, ferry on to Vienna for 2 nights.

Did it in my twenties and had a great time.

If you're young (they are), I suspect they'll get sucked in with a craic in Budapest and want to stay there. We stayed 3 nights and felt it wasn't enough.
