Beerfests- Germany

My mate's stag is in September and the best man is thinking of maybe organising it for one of the Oktoberfest events in Germany. The group is fairly small (10-11) so could be manageable. Anyway, was just wondering if anyone had any tips for where to go (outside of the obvious huge ones in Munich). I'm thinking somewhere that it would be a little less expensive for booze than the tourist trap ones, with reasonable accommodation. Any advice is much appreciated.

    Thanks

The Cannstatter Volkfest in Stuttgart or the Oktoberfest Hannover might be a good options. They both run from 23 September to 9 October this year.

Accomodation will be expensive no matter which one you pick

    I wouldnt agree with that.
For example theres the N?rnberg fest (August 25 - September 10, 2017) and for example, on the first weekend theres a number of central hotels for €50 per double room.

Straubing fest is on at a similar time, which is supposed to be one of the best, but its 2 hours from Munich and theres not a hotel room in the town to be got regardless of price, so a bit of an awkward option. Then again, you could just stay in Regensburg 25min from Straubing by train and theres hotels by the station for €75 per night for a double, or 90 for a tripple, at the weekend of the fest so not the worst.

To get around bavaria its a cheap as chips if you use the "Bayern ticket" which allows unlimited travel for a day for 50 euro for 5 people, so a tenner a head to travel in what is essentially an area the size of Ireland - including ubahns and trams in the cities should you need it ! So, not staying where the event is can also work out fairly affordable if you are happy enough to sit on a train with a couple of cans for a few minutes.
