Cooper and Avon tyres - opinions?

I know tyre recommendations are brought up here time and again, and alot of opinion seems to vary with personal experience, but I'd like to get some opinions on Cooper CS6 and Avon ZR7 tires.

I'm looking at fitting these to my Nissan 180sx as my local tyre shop has these in stock and they seem to get good reviews online.

I haven't heard of these brands myself before, but they seem to be manufactured in the USA.

Anyone had any experience with these? I don't mind spending extra to get a good well known brand name such as Continental, Pirelli, Dunlop, Bridgestone etc, but if I can find a tyre that's a bit cheaper that doesn't compromise on road noise or grip, then I'll go with that.

You can find reviews on www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/ which has several reviews for both brands.

Have a set of Avon ZZ5's on my Mazda and i cant fault them, they can be a little happy following the road sometimes but apart from that they grip well in wet and dry.

I have Cooper Discoverers on my pickup, a lot better grip than the Goodyear Wranglers they replaced.

I had Avon ZV7's on the vRS that I sold recently, couldn't fault them for the money. As an aside, this crowd in Mullingar were able to supply and fit them for less than other tyre suppliers were able to buy them in for: http://www.mileagetyres.ie/default.asp?pageid=3

I have Avon ZZ5's on my Mazda 6 and can't fault them. I have approx 3000kms on them and they haven't put a foot wrong in that time and showing virtually no signs of wear so far.

I had Avons too. Cornering was great as tyre was quite stiff but as wear increased I found grip progressively worse. I'd recommend but would replace earlier than more premium brands which tend to maintain grip for longer after wear.

And road noise was more than my current premium brand- so there's trade offs here too.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I decided to go with a full set of Avon ZV7s.
