Octavia fuel gauge and speedo not working

    I recently had the alternator fixed on a 99 Octavia and not long afterwards the fuel gauge and speedometer needles stopped working.

    They will move for a few seconds after I start the car but stop soon afterwards.

    Any ideas on what the problem might be?

    A fuse by any chance. Granted i have a newer skoda(a lot of electric) but thats what was wrong with mine

    Mine you would get into car speedo etc lit up start the car still lit when you go into first dash would die....

    Just a post script. I opened the bonnet to fill up the screen wash reservoir and when I'd finished the two gauges were working again!
