Cat interloping on our cat's territory.

We have a mild mannered male cat, neutered, about 10 years old, who sleeps indoors all day, and goes out every night. He tears the house down about 8pm each evening to be let out - that's his routine, and seems to be how he wants things.

A wild-looking male cat with half a tail has appeared in the last few weeks, and seems to have 'adopted' us. He sits outside our back door each evening howling. We shun him and run him, but he keeps reappearing. The problem is, he sprays everywhere, marking his 'new' territory, and within a matter of days, the place stinks!

There is no aggro between the two cats, except that the interloper goes for our cat's food dish, while our cat sits watching him, so we have to remove the dish every night now.

The question is, how can we deter the new cat, how can we stop him spraying around our front and back doors, and how can we get rid of the smell? There has been no food dish out now for days, but unfortunately, expectations have been established! Thanks...

TNR as he's most likely still carrying his balls would be your best bet to be honest. If you contact a local rescue they will most likely have a suitable cage if you can't catch him by hand.

would agree. Trap neuter return will take care of the spraying. depending on where you are there are rescue groups doing that. They will also do a healthcheck

I've never found a solution to this. I always TNR them and they ALWAYS end up staying...

    Big bottle of water?

Have a dog over for a few days in the garden?
