Cleaning hard water stains on glass balcony

    Hi there
I have noticed staining on my glass balcony from the rain, leaving a white residue that I can't seem to shift with elbow grease and fairy liquid :(

Does anyone have any advice as to what might work - baking soda? vinegar? Or is there something I can buy to help dissolve the stain (a bit like limescale remover for toilets)?

    Thanks a lot!

Have you tried white vinegar and water? I dunno how it would work on a glass balcony but I use it for my mirrors and it works and gets rid of stains? Could also try baking soda and vinegar, apparently this is good but I don't know if it would scratch the glass.

Thanks - will give vinegar a go, though it is really baked on white so I fear I may need something a bit stronger!

Calahonda - is that just a general limescale cleaner or is it a particular one for glass etc.?

    Thanks guys!

It's definitely not hard water, that only comes from the ground. Rain water is so soft that if you use rainwater harvesting water for your washing machine you'll never need fabric softener again.
    Useless information I suppose. :)

No, not useless, thanks! I wonder is it possible that it's running off stones from the floors above and picking up minerals to make it hard? It looks pretty much like this:

But if it's not lime/hard water, maybe it's just stained, so a limescale remover won't help. ill give the vinegar a go anyway when I get some proper window cleaning poles. Can't do any harm!

    That's a definite possibility I'd say.

Just reporting back here in case anyone is looking for similar advice!

Tried the vinegar and it maybe helped a bit but it was still there - may not have been a strong enough solution I mixed perhaps. Then tried some cif power bathroom spray which removes limescale and gave it a couple of goes over and a good scrub. I'd say about 80% of it is gone now. So I will try with some neat vinegar in a few weeks and hopefully finish it off! At least it is looking a lot better now, even if it's not sparkling, so thanks to all for the advice :)

Neat vinegar at best is only 10% ascetic acid put it in a spray bottle then you can get reasonably even coverage without using loads. Then squeegee off. If you rinse with tap water you could end up putting the hard water marks back
