08/09 1-1.8L car for first time driver

I'm 23 and looking to get on the road with a budget of €2500-3500. I've been getting reasonable insurance quotes on 2008 cars with 1.8L engines and below.

I've been mainly looking at the Ford Focus, Mazda 3 & 6 and the VW Jetta - are these good choices or is there a particular model I should consider?

You need to up your budget considerably if you're looking at 08 cars.

You won't buy much of any of those type cars in 08/0 for that sort of money. Mazda 3 petrol would be the closest.

I found a few Mazda 3 models in that range - examples below. I'm open to suggestions on better options in that price range though.

There are a few Mazda 6's coming into that price range, along with the Focus and Jetta. Realistically I expect to pay around 3500.

600ish would be the limit - diesels are coming back with around 10% more expensive insurance quotes which diminishes the savings on tax a small bit - open to petrol or diesel.

That's fair enough, cheap tax took on a whole new meaning in the last few years.
You're probably better off sticking to petrol given the budget.

Can't seem to get an insurance quote on a 1.8 Civic :mad: Yet I can get cheap quotes on a 1.8 Mazda 3/6

my insurance isn't as low as I'd like it but plenty would cover it.

Just copped that you're 23. Insurance companies are still in the 90s when it comes to what they think skobes drive.

If you going for a 6, i'd be looking at the navy one, its a much nicer spec inside. Just so you know, they're awfully thirsty around town, but pretty good on a motorway run.
