Garage size

Looking for opinions regarding the a practical size of a garage. We are undecided about a 25m 2 and a 35m 2. Going for the 25m 2 garage means we won't have to get planning permission but will it be sufficient? Anyone with these size garages who have any feedback? Would be annoyed if I found we were caught for space after going through a new build and garage process. At the same time am debating if people even use their garages for cars and should the smaller one be sufficient. Could be a squeeze with the mortgage that could hold us back another while, but would it be worth the wait ?

Think forward, Electric cars are nearing normal use, So I would have a garage big enough to fit a car to charge as well as other frequent needs, Strimmer, lawnmower, various tools.

Interestingly I had thought about the electric car possibility, it just seemed like a notion as I'm nowhere near able to change the car to upgrade but would be an option to consider. Do you know does a small car fit into a 25 m 2 or would you propose the 35m2 ?

    2.5 x 5m is a parking space.

25m.sq. would accommodate any car (small or big).

    Personally, I'm building a 8.6m by 6.1m garage.
Last thing I want is regrets its too small.
Garage is pretty cheap to make bigger in respect to a house build.

Ours is mid build and we went for 9m x 6m. The cost to increase it was minimal. Our reason for increasing it is that we have no attic in the house and therefore need to use the garage for storing everything.

Totally agree with you. After getting so far it would be a shame. However with funds (have another mortgage meeting next week), I reckon we will be going ahead with the new build, forgetting about the garage and saving up again to do a decent size one in a few years.

    We have been quoted 16, 000 for 25 sq. m, 20, 000 for 35 sq. m, and 24, 000 for the 45 sq. m

We will be building a storey and a half so attic space will be tight. Another reason why we are considering a bigger garage. Unfortunately the funds are holding us back but I'm willing to leave it out for now and have it in mind to build in the next few years.

Run adequate electric vehicle charging provisions now while it's been built.
32a cable, RCBO etc and terminate in the garage.

If you ever go Electric in the future, the home charge point can simply be connected to the terminal in the garage instead of having to run wires back to the fuse board then!
