Does it have to be a seiko?

Citizen eco-drive in and around that price bracket too. I got this one a couple of months ago - along similar lines to the seiko ones you're looking at...

    http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10152&catalogId=14551&langId=111&searchTerms=6224990&authToken=

There are other eco drives there too. Worth a look.

Nice looking watch. I like the looks of the Seikos, but might consider the eco-drive as well. Should be hassle free.

Face is quite difficult to read in the dark, as you might imagine ;)

Picked this watch up for £80 (including delivery) from a flash sale on Amazon a couple of months ago. So if you can wait a while you might be able to pick it up for less than Argos.

The same watches you're looking at are €199 in Fields so Argos are competitive.

As for wearing the watch the weight is great and the bracelet is very comfortable.

That's a very nice looking piece, and a good deal.

I have a Pulsar that looks very similar in form and function that I bought in the late 90s in Argos. About 45 punts as I recall. Still works perfectly. Might even be a variant of the same movement.

Just browsing through Amazon and came across these two on sale. Seiko 5 Automatics. I like the green one

Seiko 5 in green for £50

Seiko 5 in blue for £59.99

Neither have a chronograph or can be worn in the shower as noted below. Lovely watches none the less.

Note: Water-resistant to 3 bar (30 metres/98.7 feet): suitable for everyday use. splash/rain resistant. not suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkelling, water related work and fishing

Yeah nice watches, they're a steal at that. I had a fabric strap before - I find it gets a bit sweaty over time. Still bargains though. Lovely watches.

I have the black one and the blue one. How could you not love them at that price.

Is the day / date on the Seiko 5 in English (i.e. not spanish abbreviations)?

I found those ones a bit small (they are around 36mm)

I've had one of these for years, its a bit bigger

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seiko-Mens-Automatic-Watch-SNZG15K1/dp/B0043R5WP4/ref=sr_1_1?s=watch&ie=UTF8&qid=1492777467&sr=1-1&nodeID=328228011&psd=1&keywords=snzg15k1

The day is in English with a Roman Numeral alternative

    Its cheaper here:

It's in English. (It's actually in both but you can choose which one to use)

Ordered the SNZG15K1 from creationwatches. They're based outside the EU, so will see if I'm paying vat, duty on it.....anyway, for €99 delivered it's a lovely watch.

Excellent. I've had one for a number of years, great reliable timekeeper, and as you say, cant go wrong at the price.

I've one of these on the way, should hopefully arrive in the next few days:

Those lads at creationwatches look a bit ropey. Feedback is generally good, so a few sleepless nights ahead.. Did it though Paypal, so some come back if it goes pear shaped.

Watch shipped from Singapore on Wednesday in Leipzig at the moment, due for delivery to me Tuesday. So let's see what happens!

Thanks to my local Parcel Motel being broken for the weekend and their customer service area not working either I'm still waiting to get my new Seiko. Now they inform me its going back to the depot "for security reasons" as the 48 hours has expired, so I wont get it today either

Gah! Just got a text that I've been nabbed for duty and vat - so that has to be what €30 odd onto the €100. Ah well.

Edit - it's going to be hopefully duty exempt (valued below €150), 23% vat and €10 processing fee from DHL, so working out about €130 all in all.

Got the watch this morning, lovely I have to say - nice weight in to. I'd prefer a steel bracelet, so will see if I can source one of these.....
