I'm going to be loaning my Android phone to someone on a temporary basis, so want to take a snapshot of the phone as it is, and then wipe the device, then restore it back to the way it was when I get it back.

What's the best way to do this? Using the stock "Settings -> Backup" ?

If your phone is rooted you could use Titanium Back up. The standard back up wont save everything in its current state.
Titanium Back up gives many options one being to create a back up zip which you could then flash through recovery and bring it back to how you had it before the loan.

I'll give it a shot.. I don't believe the phone is rooted at present.

What's the best way of rooting Android nowadays? Last time I did it was about 10 years ago.

Also, how best to wipe the device?

Depending on what version of android you are running,if it has a guest mode, that might be handier?

Cheers, and factory reset is sufficient to remove all cached data etc?

Yeah, if you factory reset everything is wiped. So root first, then back up using titanium then wipe and save the zip file. Do you have a micro SD card in the phone? By default afaik titanium backs up to external saving your data there. So you could save the back up zip to the SD then wipe and remove the card while you loan the phone and when its returned just pop the sd back in and restore

PM me if you need any help.

Out of curiosity, does Kingroot install any malware I should be aware of?

Should I replace it once the rooting is complete?

Not that I'm aware of. My device is rooted through TWRP. Just saw there is a version for your phone here

You could try this instead. I know with TWRP you should have the option to unroot if you want - obviously in your case id leave it be till you get it back from your mate.

Grand. TWRP is essentially like SuperSU or KingRoot without all the optimisation guff?

Yes ... Its the best of the lot.

You could do a nandroid backup through TWRP recovery, then factory reset and you can restore the backup fairly quickly and easily be back exactly where you were before the reset.

Titanium can be slow and if you use the free version, batch restores require you to tap "ok" for each app restore.

You can use cloud services backup for your phone, and restore them all after wipe.

I like to backup phone data to pc, so I can restore them easily,  with a tool MobiKin Assistant for Android.
