A decent tyre fitter - does one exist? [Louth]

It's that time of year I detest; I have a new set of tyres arriving at the end of the week and need them fitted. The thought of this every year fills me with dread as I have had nothing but bad experiences over the last 5 years with tyre fitters that couldn't give a flying sh1te about their workmanship.

I have immaculate 20" BMW Style 149s that I intend to keep that way (which have already been refurbed to correct fitter damage), question is where on earth in Louth can fit them without damaging the rims?

I'll genuinely drive 50 miles in any direction to have them fitted and balanced correctly. I'm thinking the only guys that will take proper care are the likes of refurbers like Wheel Wizards, not sure if they take walk in tyre fitting trade though.

    Any suggestions appreciated. :)

I know the majority of my friends use discount tyres in blanchards town. They always recommend them to me ive never used them myself though.

I have to drive 50 miles just to find a dedicated tyre shop so count yourself lucky.
Anything closer and it's a dodgy garage who will stick the tyres on and not bother to balance them at all.

I have a tyre guy and I laugh at people that think that having a tyre guy isn't a thing
If people are in Sligo or near by clean rubber is the place to go
The lads there understand wheels and their importance
The cars they drive show that they understand. Mint jap and German muscle with decent wheels and they treat your alloys with the respect they deserve.

CRAIGMORE TYRES beside B & Q in Newry. Got a set of black alloys off him recently and he was very particular when putting tyres on. Have had alloys destroyed by other guys. He is now my tyre guy ..

Discount tyres in Blanch are great, i've trusted them with a few sets of BBS over the years, never had an issue.

Thanks for the suggestions folks, will try Newry and Ardee first.

I'd be the same about getting tyres fitted too. So much so that I drive just over an hour to a fella to get mine done. Prob a bit far from you Voodoo but he is in Johnstown Bridge which is the 1st exit off the M4 after the tollbridge heading towards Sligo/Athlone/Galway out of Dublin.

No one down our way that's trustworthy no? I'll be refurbing my wheels this year and will need a 'tyre guy'

This is why I fit my own tyres, but if I had to go to someone who would take care the same as me I'd be going to East coast alloys

Fancy doing mine? :p Do you know if East Coast have a problem fitting tyres other than their own?

Think the Phoenix would be beyond it's limit with 20 inch rims :p

They fit tyres, just ring them in advance and say what size of wheel you have :D

Theres a crowd in Duleek Business Park that I use, and find them good. I'm very conscious of my wheels, having had them refurbed twice in the last year or so, and they've never put a scratch on them.

That said - I do make sure to say it to them to be careful with them (by now they know me, so i dont have to, but they always take extra care with them in my experience).

I won't go anywhere else now (especially as my alloys had been made ****e of before by the crowd on the North Road in Drogheda) :(

East coast alloys would be my suggestion up that way for sure.
I'm a tyre fitter myself and love my wheels so I totally understand when a customer is fussy. It may look easy from the outside but it can be difficult enough, takes more time and extra precautions which is why most places aren't bothered.

to those that have pm'd me about fitting, I'm currently machineless so bare with me

    East Coast Alloys.
Ask for Deam Martin. Tell I told you ask for him.

Thanks to advice above, I got great service today at East Coast Alloys in Ardee.

Got the Good Years installed on the rear without the slightest hitch, 100% unmarked, absolutely delighted. Got a full laser alignment done too due to uneven wear on the back, seems it was well out.

There's a noticeable negative camber now compared to any other time in the last 3.5 years i've had the car and i've always had trouble with the rear, so hopefully this fixes it.
I love the look of the F1s, it's a real meaty tyre. :)

Great service and attention to detail, highly recommended, thanks Barry.

Put Eagle F1s on the rear of my F10 recently too and they are a great tyre and good value compared to similar brands.

Nice tyres, out of interest what kind of mileage would you get out of a full set?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

Yep had them before on my E38, an excellent performer. It's silly i'm still so happy hours later having tyres fitted with zero issues, but it's always been a cause of stress for me. Chuffed, will be back.

Those Continental SC 5s were a joke, about 16,000km on the rears. Ridiculously soft tyre, the fronts were put on at the same time and they're still 70%+.
The Vredsteins last time wore nice and evenly front to back, probably 25,000km-30,000km ish.
