Weeds in silage ground

Slurry out in silage ground 1 week. Ground was grazed before slurry apppied. Walked it today, along with docs, some thistles, there appears to be a lit of weeds in the fields.

Do I spray now or wait until fertiliser is out.

if they are growing and while the weather conditions allow - spray away

What way was the slurry applied? If it was splash plate, slurry is probably stuck to the leaves like sh*t to a blanket. No point spraying until these clean off and/or fresh leaves appear. Work away with the fertiliser a week or so after slurry. Then wait til first week in May to spray would be my advice. If you spray now, you are not going to get a good kill because the herbicide won't be able to be taken in through the leaves.

I don't think you can use fore front on silage you are about to cut. I think you can only spray it off with fore front after the silage is done for this year

Yes it did a bit but not to bad to be fair. Best spray on the market. It really gives docks a good thump

+1 on forefront T. Super stuff.

I heard in the pass that it is not suitable to use on silage ground, well I did it two years ago and they're all alive still...!!

But maybe check it out elsewhere and don't just listen to me. Certainly nothing in the data sheet or on container to say you shouldn't.

Theres no problem using forefront t on silage ground but you have to be careful where you spread the slurry generated from the ground sprayed. youre not allowed export slurryfrom the treated ground as there can be traces in the slurry

Are dandelions any harm in silage? I've about 20 acres for bales at the end of May and the field is riddled with them. There's plenty of them around the country this year. Sound

They are fine in silage, most research says they won't affect the quality. The problem is they will affect the growth and yield of your crop. I spray my silage/hay fields once every 2 years to kill everything. The result has been much bigger yields and better quality silage.

Dandelions have almost become a bigger nuisance than ragweed in recent years. 2017 is going to be a terrible year for weeds after such a mild Winter.

Farmers need to graze sheep over the winter. We haven't had sheep in over 10 years. Pastures were cleaner when we had them. Even 30 store lambs over 50 acres would clean it well.

I was looking at my neighbours fields that were full of sheep the other thinking how clean they looked.

I knows this will be a highly debatable subject but with recent temp changes certain weeds are flourishing in our climate. Ivy and ragweed being two prominent ones.

You gotta love boards-I searched to see if anyone was putting out forefront t on silage ground and got my answer straight away! It's a great resource.
My silage field is grazed out now. I plan to spray tomorrow and maybe slurry early next week.
If I went with fertiliser soon after this yo lock for silage, would there still be bits of rotting weeds on the ground? Am I going too quick with slurry after spraying?

You should spray in a few weeks when you have a good regrowth, you'll get a far better kill.

having got the 1st cut done and slurry/fertiliser o middle of june..i can see some buttercups starting 2 appear

what do you think once after the rain comes back id be tempted to run over the silage fields with forefront(to try and kill off any weeds) with the hope of making a second cut a couple of weeks after(maybe 3 weeks or so after spraying if its ready)...that safe to do? anyone know?

I notice a lot of a particular weed in hedge verges.. Has a tall slender stalk with a tiny purple flower. Seems to be springing up everywhere.
    Any ideas what it is?
