Ordered two leather sofas (3+2) from dfs. After the delivery when I was cleaning the sofa with cloth and inspecting it closer I spotted a small leather cut on the front cession on one of the sofas. I took the photos and sent an email to dfs to make a contact with me to arrange replacement or return. We do have insurance on damage, but it seems to be not relevant to this case as it wasn't our fault. I do not want this sofa repaired or even replaced, I'd prefer to return sofas back. The dfs girl on the phone said they do not accept returns once furniture is ordered, that seems to be not complying with consumer right to return a purchase in 30 days. Am I wrong? Can dfs deny buyer to return the purchase?

Did you place order online or in shop?

Did they offer to replace or repair it?

They have to Repair/Replace or Refund and its up to the shop to decide on which i think.

    You made two errors

1 - you bought from DFS

2 - you were sucked in to buy their ridiculous overpricded "insurance" policy.

There is no such thing as a "consumer right" to return within 30 days, but a consumer is entilteld to goods to be delivered in perfect condition.

On their side, they may repair, replace or refund. For a small cut, a repair is probably the most suitable remedy.

I also suggest if its less than 14 days since purchase, to cancel the "insurance" policy and get that refunded. On insurance policies you have a 14 day cooling off period. Check online for "DFS Insurance Scam" and you'll see the horror stories and how the policy actually covers very little, it was also part of a BBC watchdog expose a couple of years ago. The sales guys put huge pressure on you to buy and will use scare tactics because they get 30% commission on each policy they flog.

Bought a new leather sofa from them recently.  The hard sell is a drain on what should be a good experience.  Also had a small tear in one of the seats from delivery and they sent a person to check it.  That person applied a specialist glue of some kind and told us they'd be in touch.  Sure enough they called to say they'd replace the covers and these would arrive next month.  Meanwhile the sofa is grand and usable and we've kind of no longer noticed the issue.
Give them a chance to sort it out, they might come through for you.

Do distance selling regulations apply to big items bought like this?
Ordinarily if you buy online you have 10 days to approve your purchase during which time you can chose to send it back at your own cost if you don't like it.
Obviously that's not the situation but I wonder if that would apply for you OP?

I doubt it was distance selling or bought online?

Without trying to be rude, sounds a tad like buyers remorse is what you have?

You have a small cut, but you don't want the sofas either repaired or replaced? So presumably you're going straight for the refund.

I don't think you'll get too far, to be honest. Worked in a furniture shop before and our first port of call was to offer a small discount. If that failed, then it was usually a replacement, but the manufacturer wanted to do the delivery, so they could be fully satisfied with the condition of the sofa upon delivery (but we were a generic furniture shop, not like DFS who seem to do their own lines only).
