Just had our first lamb born today. Can someone give me a list of what we should be doing to ensure health of ewe & lamb, Worming , dosing etc?

    first things first

spray/dip the navel with iodine asap
put a ring on the lamb's tail

then you've a few weeks before you start thinking about coccidiosis

Make sure ewe has passed the afterbirth, and that the lamb is suckling from her.

Go to the nearest co-op/supplier and buy a bag of sheep cubes/nuts (7-8 Euro). Give her 0.5kg/day for the next week. Make sure she has grass and water too. She should have enough milk for the lamb then.

As said above, make sure the lamb is drinking her. Lift the lamb gently to check its belly is full. No need to do it all the time - just maybe twice during the first 24 hours.

After that, all you have to do is keep an eye on them for the next few weeks and read up on lamb health on the Internet in the meantime. This is a great forum for asking questions and getting answers, so you could always read stuff here too. Remember though that much of it probably only relates to people with medium to large flocks.

Good luck - tis great craic!
