    Hi
Is there any kind of website that organises the renting out of apartments abroad that people are happy with. Looking at different countries in Europe to stay in over the summer and was hoping to get an apartment but finding it hard to know if websites are legitimate or not? Anyone used any of them before?
    Thanks

Airbnb is the largest and most reputable globally.

one of the biggest is https://www.homeaway.com/ which have proper local operations in various european locations.

For the north of italy the tourism board there have their own site which I used before for an apartment and was very happy with (lovely part of the world btw. Handy to get to as its more or less between Milan and Venice , but also south of the brenner pass if heading to Italy from Germany)

I've used Agni Travel twice to book accommodation in Greece. It's been a few years but they were excellent to deal with at that time. Booked everything via email correspondence and followed up with phone calls. We were met at Corfu Airport and provided with all the final details for our accommodation/ car rental etc.
They have extended their portfolio into The Canaries, Mallorca & Portugal also but Corfu is their speciality.
    www.agnitravel.com

Have also booked numerous properties through www.homeaway.co.uk
You are usually corresponding with the owner or a third party e.g AgniTravel also advertise their properties on homeaway
Some properties are also to be found on both Homeaway.co.uk and AirBnB

Main advise is to do your homework...make sure property is well established/ plenty of reviews/ owner updates their calendar regularly and responds quickly. We also make sure to book a property that only requires a deposit and where you pay balance on arrival! We have booked some really nice places on a budget through both websites.

I find airbnb a bit hit and miss now. They have gotten too big. Most of the time I book now I get a message back telling me they put the wrong price on it accidentally and now it's a few hundred more. It's a common trick now with airbnb.
People book and then ha e to wait 24 hours to hear that and in the meantime they have invested in going there.
Airbnb should really stamp out that practice. It will ruin their business.

I use Pierre et Vacances anytime I'm in southern France.
No messing with them and extensive varieties.

Funny, I've never had that experience with Airbnb and I use it quite often. With Airbnb I like that you can see reviews of the property, I don't book unless they have a good few positive reviews from real (verified) people. I've had one dodgy apartment and one unfriendly host, but both apartments were dirt cheap and Accom elsewhere was limited (due to a conference) so all in all I'd recommend them. They've also started doing long stay discounts which is great.

I never had it either until this year. I used to swear by airbnb. They have become too big I think.
Really you should get the price on the site when you book and the owner should not be able to change it. Too much messing around.

100% agree, actually I thought it was going the opposite way with more and more instabook homes available where you don't even talk to the owner in advance. Would you mainly rent in "school holiday" locations and times? I mainly book weekend city breaks (fri to sun or sat to mon). I would completely back out if they tried to charge me more.

Yeah I would mainly use airbnb for July and august in resorts. It's fine out of the resort's but this carryon is just getting more common in the resort's.
