Hi I have a 2006 golf since I got the car the cigarette lighter doesn't work in it I need it working so I can plug in a car charger. I have used a different lighter stick I have checked the fuses and I have taken out the entire lighter/ashtray part and swapped with my dads working one and it doesn't work once it was put into mine. When I push down the lighter it gets stuck. Any ideas how to fix this?

Do you know for sure which fuse it is?

I could be wrong, but I was judging by what the handbook said it was a brown 25 fuse into the position that the book told me to put

All the fuses are working I have checked. I'm thinking could it be wire that connects to the cigarette lighter?

The diagram for the fuse layout on my golf wasnt accurate and the fuse for the cig lighter was not in the place it stated. If you can get hold of a multimeter and test everyone of the fuses and see if one is gone. You can also check for 12v at the lighter itself. The fuse diagram caught me out and it was only i checked all fuses with the multimeter that i found it.
