Its a club that you can use to replace a long iron, it is supposedly easier to hit and easier to launch higher. I have a bit of a love hate with them. I used to own a couple of steel shafted Cleveland Halo's that i thought were the greatest thing since sliced bread. Ever since i sold them i have got graphite shafted ones and they all seem to hook like mad.

    i have three.

    taylormade 18 degree
cleveland 23 degree and 26 degree, 4 iron and 5 iron distances

they are easy to hit but not as accurate as my irons.

It's easier to get the ball in the air with a hybrid but you probably can't do as much in terms of shaping a shot in the way you can with an iron.

Previously, I've said they were clubs for oul' fellahs :).......the I read a piece that noted that about two-thirds of pros have a hybrid in the bag at any given time and about a quarter carry two.....so who am I argue with the big boys and girls.

I have two in the bag - hybrid 4 and 5 irons (along with a 3 cross-over that looks more like an iron than a wood), and I'd say I'm a convert.

It's like everything, though, there are compromises - my 4 hybrid is not as long as my 4 iron was, but I find it's a lot straighter - maybe I can't make the ball move with left to right with, but i also find it's 'difficult' to hit a slice - it is much more forgiving than the corresponding iron it replaced and I don't take it out with the same trepidation I'd have taken the iron out - I actually relish having a bash with it!!

The other thing I've noticed is that because the ball gets off the ground quicker, and flies higher, it lands at a steeper angle and accordingly does not roll out as much......so there is a loss of distance but it also means that you can go at a green directly instead of trying to land in front of it and run it up, as you might with an iron that hits a lower trajectory.

As a newbie to golf and had two in my set I got I find it the the easiest club. Great for 2nd shots on long holes if you have a good lie.

Which hybrid do you use because i am tortured with hooking hybrids. I don't hook any other club anywhere near as bad.

this is probably the best bit of advice you'll get in this thread.

Other than that, the excess hooking could be related to the shaft in the club/offset in the face?

So the brand of club would almost be an irrelevance. If you're happy with your swing, then maybe you need to try out a few different shafts in the club
