Hi. My 2009 ford focus will not start with the key after replacing the key casing. The remote on the key works to open doors but key will not start car. I transferred the insides of the old casing into the new one but no joy. I tried the reprogramming procedure in the manual too, no joy either. Any ideas?

I don't know about ford keys but my brother had the same problem with his Peugeot 206 when he bought a new casing. There was a tiny black box in the key that he didn't swap into the new one, a little immobiliser chip. When he swapped it over it started straight away.

Hold the old casing next to the new one when you try to start the car, if it starts then you've left something behind. If it still doesn't start you broken or lost something.

    Is this your key?

Its the little black box at the bottom you need to look out for.

Thanks lads, you're all spot on. The transponder chip was stuck in a piece that was nearly impossible to get apart. My god the old fob was unbelievably hard to take apart. All sorted now.
