We have one of the older model gallaghers i think it is the s60 and it works great, kind of set and forget, but bring a tester out every now and again to make sure theres power in it. Good belt off it when its charged up.

Be careful not to drop them or have them so a cow could kick them because the panel gets damaged easy enough and its a costly fix. We found ours on its side one day with a crack from corner to corner or the panel and had to get it replaced, not quite sure how it happened mind, but i imagine it got a kick or something. That newer one you linked to looks much more durable though!
eg away... but we have it a number of years so its served us well

    Hi.
Any recommendations for a good battery fence. Was looking at the ones that have the solar panel to charge up themselves like this one.

Or would the likes of this Gallagher one be any good

I use a pel, works very well, have the same tractor battery in it for the last 15 years after it was finished in the tractor, I'm using the 401 model for fencing sheep, the one i have is 1 joule which is 5 times stronger than the cheetah.
    They also make smaller ones.
The PE7025 is .2 joule same as the Cheetah

I have a cheetah one i think it is a b1-11 or something it is a 2 joule output battery fencer.
2 joule output is much stronger than 2 joule stored so watch for that when buying.
    Serious power on it.

Yea, I use it in the winter for strip grazing sheep, I would have to charge it up maybe twice in dec/ jan at the most, would do it with the jump leads on the jeep, while I'm reading the comic
The short days of dec would drain it, but january would usually charge it enough in the lenght of the day

Before I bought the solar panel I found it hard to run, don't know if it was that hard but it convinced me to invest in the solar panel and they were expensive at the time.
You can get cheap panels on Ebay now that might do it if you knew enough about them

    Try these guys.
    http://stradballyfarmservices.com/
They used to be wholesalers and distributors, don't know about now though.
I can actually buy their stuff cheaper from the local merchant than from them, they won't undercut shops that they supply so it might be worth asking who they supply in your area.
I forget the price of the fencer but it's got a lot of use and no problems, so it was only dear the first day

Is 200 Euro a tad dear for a 1Joule fencer. Just browsing for a solar fencer today and came across a 3 Joule for same money on irishsales.ie
    http://irishsales.ie/?product=lacme-dual-d4-fencer-battery-mains

Is that not a better option?
